This plant listing is for ONE Hellebore 'ANJA OUDOLF' plant from the HGC® Spring Promise® series. This perennial, when in bloom, bears large, outward facing, single-petalled flowers in stunning yellow color with delicate raspberry veins.   The flowers start as green, pink-tinged buds.  The nectaries and anthers are a deep red and form a contrasting backdrop to the bright yellow flower centers.  'Anja Oudolf' is a Lenten rose and starts blooming in February and the flowers remain attractive until late spring.  Once established, these long-lived perennial plants have notable vigor and produce numerous blossoms per plant.  The Spring Promise® series showcases four varieties, of which we carry two on this site.  Leathery, evergreen palmate leaves become large and provide year-round interest in the garden.

  • Hellebores are low-maintenance and mostly disease and pest-free. In the spring simply trim back last year's foliage. These hardy plants can adapt to diverse growing conditions. They prefer rich, moist, organic soil but will also grow in clay or sandy soil. Good soil drainage is important for healthy root development. Once established these plants can tolerate short periods of drought. Soil pH can range from slightly acidic to slightly alkaline. Hellebores are shade plants that need to be protected from the hot afternoon sun. They can grow in full shade under large deciduous trees, but the winter sun helps set their blooms. In the fall heavily mulch the soil at the base of Helleborus plants. In the spring new seedlings will grow in this mulch and can then be transplanted elsewhere in the garden.

    When to Plant:

    Moisture:
